Clauson Becomes Youngest Daytona Nationwide Pole Winner
Bryan Clauson became the youngest NASCAR Nationwide Series pole winner at Daytona International Speedway on Friday after he took the top spot for tonight's Winn-Dixie 250. At 19 years, 19 days, Clauson captured the pole in the No. 40 Dodge with a lap of 180.610 mph. But, before he officially took the pole, Clauson had to wait through 43 cars to take time. "Having to wait the two and a half hours or whatever we just waited is pretty rough on a guy," said Clauson, who eclipsed Elliott Sadler's record for the youngest pole winner at Daytona. "I feel like I'm about 30 years old now." Clauson's pole marked his third top-10 start with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2008. His previous best start also came at Daytona earlier this season, when he qualified the No. 42 Dodge in sixth. "We had a great run in the spring and we brought back the same car," Clauson said. "We feel really good about our car. Hopefully we can finish where we started." Brad Keselowski and rookie Colin Braun, who qualified second and third, respectively, were the only other drivers to crack 180 mph. Brad Coleman and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounded out the top five.
